This challenge SUCKED!
I’ve woken up at 5:00 AM before, but this was the first time I did it for no other reason than I’d chosen to. It was an unpleasant, exhaustion-filled experience, and I don’t plan on repeating it anytime soon.
I’d like to say the first day was the worst, but that would be a lie. Each morning was equally painful, and I inevitably ended up spending my evenings tossing and turning as my body waited for its internal clock to allow it to fall asleep. I’m not sure how much sleep I got on average, but I spent those five days in a state of constant exhaustion.
The good news is I managed to get all of my work done. The bad news is my workouts took quite a hit. I only exercised two times that week—as opposed to the usual five. I also barely got any reading done because my eyes were too tired to focus on the words for more than a few minutes.
Basically, everything about this challenge sucked. The only upside was that it reminded me of how important sleep is. Not only do you feel more alive after a good night’s sleep, but you’re happier and more productive. I’m not saying I’ll never wake up early again, but next time I try to alter my sleep patterns, I’ll make sure to do it gradually. I suggest you do the same.
